Connect with God

 why jesus matters

1. First, realize that Jesus is God and that he loves you

Jesus proved he was God in the flesh by his life, his words, his deeds, his resurrection, and his sacrificial love. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

2. Second, realize that Jesus died to pay for your sins

Everyone is a sinner and our sin separates us from God. Our sin has a price that must be paid. “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23) but “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

3. Third, realize that Jesus rose from the dead and offers you eternal life

After three days in the tomb, Jesus rose again proving that he is God and that he is able to give eternal life to those who believe on him for salvation. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” (John 11:25)

4. Fourth, realize that Jesus alone can save you from the penalty of sin

Having an eternal relationship with God is not a matter of being good or religious. It is simply realizing you are too broken to save yourself and trusting Jesus alone for salvation. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

5. Finally, trust in Jesus for salvation and a new life

In your own words, tell God you are sorry for your sins and that you don’t want to be separated from him. Tell him you recognize that Jesus took your punishment when he died on the cross. Ask him to forgive you and save you from an eternity in hell, and that you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour today. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Rom. 10:9)
